Clinics and Workshops

Total Immersion Workshops

As a director, co-director, and assistant, I've been part of anywhere from 10-25 Total Immersion Weekend Workshops per year since 2004. I've taught with some of the strongest TI coaches, including Terry Laughlin (TI founder and owner) and Shinji Takeuchi (owner of TI-Japan and one of the world's most watched swimmers on youtube). With each workshop, I improve my own teaching and coaching by finding new solutions and approaches to common technical problems.

Here are some of the Upcoming Total Immersion clinics I will be part of:

January 16-17 Total Immersion Weekend Workshop- Cincinnati, OH (Co-director with Devonna Eubanks)

January 23-24 Total Immersion Weekend Workshop- Omaha, NE (Assistant to Kevin Millerick)

January 29 TI- Advanced Clinic- San Francisco, CA (Director)

January 30-31 Total Immersion Weekend Workshop- San Francisco, CA (Director)

February 20-21 Total Immersion Weekend Workshop- Minneapolis, MN (Director)

February 28-March 6  Coach Training- Coronado, CA (Co-Director)

March 6 TI Advanced- Coronado, CA (Co-Director)

TI-Advanced

Recently, i began a new program for Total Immersion. TI has long been known for the transformative experience of a weekend workshop- I wanted to take it further into the technique and approach needed to find speed in distance and even sprint races. With Terry Laughlin's help and many other coaches' suggestions, we created TI-Advanced. Below is a description of a recent workshop. Terry and I are constantly updating and improving the format and content, with a full-day version coming soon.

This intensive supplemental workshop is intended for those who have established an efficiency foundation using a Total Immersion workshop. We’ll review and refine your technique with video analysis, provide personalized focal points for continuing improvement and teach you how to use stroke tempo training for “easy speed” to improve your  pace for distances up to and beyond a mile.

TI Master Coach Dave Cameron will film you from multiple angles, to show you the strengths and weaknesses of your form – and how changes in pace affect your form. We’ll also cycle through a menu of focal points and use the Tempo Trainer to show you your specific priorities for speed development within practice sessions. You will leave with a clear plan for improvement and a guide for structuring your own workouts in the future.

All attendees will receive a flash drive filled with practices designed for technical awareness and tempo development with breaking down the stroke, video clips of their stroke at multiple speeds, above and underwater and at different tempos, and articles relevant to their continuing improvement in freestyle speed, grace, and flow.

Note: We will test your ability to maintain efficiency at a range of distances and tempos, some of them challenging. You will be better prepared if you’ve been in consistent practice for at least 2 to 3 hours per week before the workshop.

Since 2002, I've helped out Minnesota Tri Club and Twin Cities Multisport Club with some basic analysis clinics. Many people want a quick touch-up and some recommendations for improvement, along with some filming and a copy of what they're doing. Below is the description of this year's small group clinic.

It’s early in the season - the best time to lay the foundation for better form in your swimming. This year, don’t crank away at mile after mile until you’ve got a stroke that is efficient and comfortable. This clinic is about getting your season started with a focus on more intelligent swimming. We use video analysis that you can take home on a flash drive to give you the primary areas of improvement for your swimming, from multiple angles above and underwater.

Additional Information

What you'll learn Find the strengths and weaknesses of your stroke, and see the best sets and focal points to improve. All participants get a flash drive with all clips of their stroke (narrated by Dave Cameron with analysis) and a series of tri masters workouts for improvement

Why you should do it

It's all crammed into one 2-hour clinic that is guaranteed to make you think harder not just about what you are doing when you are swimming, but why and how you are doing the particular stroke you have. We dare you to try and find anything else like this clinic for even twice the price! And remember that your YWCA, Twin Cities Multisport, membership saves you $15!
