Minnesota Tri Masters is a swim club especially focused on training for longer-distance freestyle races (triathlon swim legs in particular). Our core group of swimmers is triathletes, but we do have some participants who do not compete in multisport races. We have all levels of athletes, from elite age groupers and Ironman participants to tri newbies and sprinters. Regardless of the type of athlete, our main goal is to teach how to hold the best stroke over the longest distance. The basic premise behind our work is that we can most effectively improve the swimming portion of our races by focusing primarily on technique. Some of our workouts are almost all technique, while others are oriented around pacing, threshold work, sprinting, and improving other strokes. We work hard during our practices, but our goals are to improve our swimming skills and knowledge on the way to feeling confident in the water. We invite all levels of swimmers who are looking to improve, train, and have a good time. The club has been around in some form since the late eighties, when Marilyn Franzen started a workout group of triathlete masters who were looking for consistent distance-focus workouts. The current coach, Dave Cameron, started with the group in 2000, and has since expanded the practice schedule to include 2-3 workouts per week year-round and long-course workouts in the summer. |
